Triquetra or Trinity knot
The word ‘Triquetra’ comes from the Latin for ‘three-cornered’ and although its exact origins are unknown, it has been found on carved stones all over Northern Europe dating from the 8th century onward
This widely recognised knot has been used as a symbol in Christian tradition as a sign of the Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). However endless intertwining curves can also represent eternal love and it can be given as a gift in order to convey a wish of longevity as it represents an uninterrupted life cycle. It can also represent the land, sky and sea.
Whatever it symbolises the Triquetra in fused glass shows off the simplicity of the design in stunning clarity. The variations of the designs are beautiful in their own right as they add complexity and symbolism to the original
